You know those toys that are so simple, so cheap, and yet somehow become the MVPs of your entire holiday, half term, and park trips?
Yeah. That’s this plane.
It’s foam.
It’s lightweight.
It costs less than a fiver.
And it has brought hours—I mean hours—of pure joy to my boys.
But let me tell you a little story first… because this plane? It’s been through a lot.
The Tree Incident (Yes, This Actually Happened…)
It was the last day of the spring term. You know the vibe—everyone’s a bit giddy, school bags dumped in the hallway, and the weather finally behaving. I took my four children and a few of their school friends down to the park for a bit of a wind-down-before-the-chaos-of-holidays moment.
Out came the foam aeroplane.
Within minutes, the kids were off—running, launching, chasing it as it swooped and looped through the air. It was amazing. No screens. No bickering. Just fresh air and laughter.
They played with it for well over an hour.
And then…
The gust. The launch. The tree.
This wasn’t just any tree.
This was a massive, towering, “haha, good luck getting it back” kind of tree.
We watched as the plane soared up… up… and wedged itself in the highest branch like a smug little bird.

Cue the chaos:
All the kids pointing and shouting advice Me trying to throw a hard plastic water bottle up there like I’d suddenly become an Olympic javelin champion Nearly an hour of attempts that got us absolutely nowhere
Eventually, with sad little faces and one very emotional boy, we had to give up and go home. Without the plane.
But we are not a family who gives up on a good toy that easily.
Later that day, we returned—with a five-metre extendable pole and the determination of people who’d already invested a lot of energy into foam flight retrieval.
And we got it back!
We poked and prodded until the plane finally fell… and within seconds, one of the kids stepped on it.
Snap.
Cue more tears.
So, for about the hundredth time, I reached for the superglue and pieced it back together.
And guess what?
It’s still flying.
Like nothing ever happened.
Why I’m Still Obsessed with This Toy
That one little foam plane has been our go-to entertainment ever since. And even after all the drama, I still swear by it. Here’s why:
– It’s ridiculously affordable
Hot tip from a mum who’s been there: You can actually grab a 2-pack for under £10—which, honestly, is probably a smart move. Not just to prevent World War Sibling from breaking out over who gets the next turn, but also for those inevitable moments when one ends up permanently living in a tree. Trust me, having a backup can save a lot of tears (and a second trip to the park with a broomstick). Honestly, it’s one of the best-value toys we’ve ever owned.
– Hours of fun and fresh air
Perfect for parks, beaches, campsites, or any wide open space (just steer clear of trees—lesson learned!).
– No batteries, no setup, no fuss
The kids pick it up and go. Over and over again.
– Durable beyond belief
It’s been glued, stood on, flung into the sky—and it’s still going strong.
