Julie’s Favourite Things: A Peek Inside the Mind of an 8-Year-Old Adventurer

Welcome to the first post in my “Favourite Things” blog series—where I sit down with each of my four children and ask them all about the things they love most in the world, right now, in this very moment.

This idea came from a place of curiosity and love—of wanting to slow down and truly listen to each of them. No rushing, no correcting, no agenda. Just me, a quiet moment, and their words.

And we’re starting with the eldest: Julie.

Julie is 8 years old and bursting with ideas. She’s bold, imaginative, funny, and always a few steps ahead in any game. She dreams big, loves adventures, and is the kind of child who could easily set up her own island economy by lunchtime. When I asked her what name she’d like to use for this blog, she picked Julie—so Julie it is. My other three children have also been given new names.

Here’s what Julie had to say…

Meet Julie: Summary

Julie is curious, clever, and confident in the best possible way. She knows what she likes (adventures, waffles, and anything involving Daddy) and she’s not afraid to dream up magical places or invent her own toys. Her sweet machine is already sketched out in detail, and her Gryffindor sword? Earned with birthday money and wielded with pride.

There’s a spark in her that lights up every room—and I loved every second of seeing the world through her eyes.

Her imagination, independence, and sense of humour made this interview such a joy—and the perfect place to begin this series.

Next up: Ethan—our 6-year-old inventor with a serious love for Clawsby the teddy and a mind full of marbles (literally). You won’t want to miss his answers…
